Our Story

In 2022, the 4th generation Hart family business grew to include the Frog Rock Tavern, located just down the road from Hart's Turkey Farm Restaurant. While keeping the spirit of a friendly neighborhood pub, the Harts elevated its menu of American classics with scratch made foods like hand-breaded, made to order chicken fingers, hand-formed fresh ground beef burgers, and homemade dressings and sauces. The only spot in town with a late-night menu, the Frog is the perfect come-as-you-are place to grab a bite after a day on the lake or the slopes.

The Frog Rock Tavern is more than a local hangout–it’s a place where all are welcome, and everyone is greeted with a smile. The family has poured their heart and soul into every endeavor, while staying true to Russ Hart’s original vision–to provide delicious homestyle food and warm, friendly service.

The Frog Rock Tavern

The Old Tin Shop of 67 Main St.

67 Main St stands over the Waukewan stream (or “the canal” as we in town call it). The first building constructed over the canal served as a perch to keep the dam below free of debris. The abutting land has been home to brick manufacturers, multiple generations of tin smiths, and other various merchants. In 1915 Leander Pynn converted his father Gilbert’s tin shop into Meredith’s first automobile service center. Locals still proudly refer to Frog Rock as Pynn’s garage.

Hart’s purchased the building in 2022 with the intent of keeping locals perched on Main Street. We love to host summer vacationers, ski bunnies, tradespeople and everyone in between.  We love making and serving up casual food with real ingredients and pouring a good drink. We’d love host you – hop on in, pull up a perch and share your story with us!

Thank you to Meredith Historical Society for the images.

Meet the Harts

The Hart story began in the 1920s when Mae and Lawrence Hart started vacationing in the Lakes Region. In 1946, they decided they loved the area so much that they moved from New Jersey, purchasing a beautiful mountain-view farm. Sons Russ and Larry and their wives soon followed and also began farming in NH. At first, the family grew and sold vegetables and apples before transitioning to turkey farming.

The business evolved once again when the Harts opened the region’s first true farm-to-table restaurant, a 12-seat space specializing in homemade turkey dinners. As Russ honed his culinary skills, the family phased out turkey farming to focus on the restaurant.

Hart’s Restaurant now has seating for 500 guests, including an outdoor deck, a bar area known as the Copper Kettle Tavern, and several smaller dining rooms for private events. There is also a shop selling fresh and frozen foods, bakery products, and gifts. Over the years, steak, seafood, and much more were added to the restaurant menu alongside the homestyle turkey dinners.

The family went on to open Hart’s Catering, offering custom menus for events both onsite and at other venues, and in 2022 they added the Frog Rock Tavern to their roster.
